What exactly do you do as a comparative Literature Major?

A comparative literature major is an interdisciplinary major, meaning that not all of your major cles will come from the comparative literature department. Many of your credits will come from advanced literature cles in the departments of English, Russian, French, whatever language-literature you choose. In those cles, you will usually be reading works in the original language and discussing them in that language, although there are exceptions. Your comparative literature cles might include movements in literary criticism and theory, literary history, etc., and you might read some works in translation there since not everyone will be learning the same language. But you will be expected to be able to read books in your second language. It's hard at first, but in time it will get easier and not that much slower than reading in English.
